UFC commentator Joe Rogan has detailed the exact moment he believes Conor McGregor “self-destructed”.
McGregor was found by a jury to have assaulted a woman in a Dublin hotel room in December 2018. Nikita Hand has been awarded damages of more than £200,000 following a High Court civil case against the fighter.
McGregor denied the allegations and says he will be appealing the decision, insisting he had consensual sex with the woman. The 36-year-old has been mired in controversy in recent years and Rogan believes McGregor’s problems stem from his money spinning crossover fight with Floyd Mayweather in 2017.
The Irishman is said to have earned more than £100million for his clash with the boxing legend, which he lost by TKO in the tenth round. “Conor self-destructed in a lot of ways because of money,” Rogan said on his podcast.
“He took that fight with Floyd Mayweather, made a ton of money off that. And then took a long time before he came back to MMA—and he’s just not been the same guy since. I think that’s just money. It’s a lot of partying, but it’s the same kind of thing. It’s just wild. But when Conor was in his prime, he was a f***ing assassin.”
Speaking outside the court, Ms. Hand said; “I am overwhelmed by the support I have received from everybody. I want to thank my legal team and my three barristers, they have been amazing from start to finish.
