The comedian said she’s “thrilled” to be making her late show debut in Ireland on her birthday

Rosie O’Donnell is celebrating her first birthday in Ireland with a major TV appearance.

O’Donnell turned 63 on Friday, March 21, and she marked the occasion with an Instagram post as she shared a photo of a beautiful bouquet of flowers she’d received and reflected on her move in a lengthy caption.

“I am 63 today, happy birthday to me,” she wrote, detailing the “full schedule” she had for the day as she is set to appear on RTE’s The Late Late Show.

“Friends have flown in, the cake is made, I’ve got my outfit chosen for The Late Late Show tonight,” she continued, complimenting the Irish show’s host Patrick Kielty who she said is a “charming man – smart and funny.”

The caption also saw her reflect on the state of things in the U.S., though, as she said she looks to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jasmine Crockett “for daily inspiration [and] affirmation” and praised “their courage in the face of fascism.”

“If this administration remains in charge, there will be no mention [of] feminist leaders or Jackie Robinson or doctor MLK,” she continued. “We all will be erased – deleted – denied. As half the country cheers the cutting of programs for public good, claiming life is about to get better, lacking the understanding to see what [is] right in front of them. Willful blindness is so dangerous.”

In her TikTok from Thursday, O’Donnell spoke about her appearance on The Late Late Show as she said she was ready to “talk about how Clay and I have found it being here in this beautiful country and the reasons why we felt the need to leave [the U.S.] and all that’s going on in the world.”

“It’s not easy to move to another country and we really as a family felt this was the safest and best thing for us to do and it looks sadly we were correct,” she said in the video. “What’s happening in the United States is overwhelmingly depressing, unconstitutional, illegal, criminal and so, so very sad.”

O’Donnell revealed earlier this month that she and her 12-year-old Clay left the U.S. and moved to Dublin in January ahead of President Donald Trump’s inauguration. In her post confirming her move, O’Donnell said things had been “wonderful” and that she would only consider returning to the U.S. “when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights.”

“I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, that’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child. And here we are,” she said in the March 12 TikTok where she confirmed her move.
