The celebrity boxer is now 58 years old, and his status as a boxing legend is cemented. His legacy includes him being the youngest heavyweight champion on history which is a major achievement.
While his accomplishments are enough to make people remember his name, he is equally as infamous for his ear-biting during a match with Evander Holyfield.
Mike Tyson’s infamous fight with Holyfield has been replayed endlessly in photos, documentaries, and sketches. But there’s another, far more painful chapter of his life that he rarely speaks about — the devastating loss of his 4-year-old daughter, Exodus.
Strangled herself with a cord from a treadmill
On May 26, 2009, Mike Tyson’s 4-year-old daughter, Exodus, passed away in a Phoenix hospital following a tragic accident at home.
She had been on life support after accidentally strangling herself with a cord from a treadmill.
”Somehow, she was playing on this treadmill, and there’s a cord that hangs under the console—it’s kind of a loop. Either she slipped or put her head in the loop, but it acted like a noose, and she was obviously unable to get herself off of it,” police said at the time.
Another heartbreaking detail of this tragedy is that it was Exodus’ 7-year-old brother, Miguel, who found her and rushed to tell their mother, who was in another room. She immediately removed Exodus from the cord, called 911, and tried to revive her.
Mike Tyson had been in Las Vegas at the time but flew to Phoenix as soon as he heard about the accident. It’s clear that the loss affected him deeply.
He confessed that his first reaction was, “Get my gun, automatic just like this and go crazy.”
Soon after the death, he was given an interview, which he cut short because discussing the passing of his child was too much for him to discuss.
In the video, which was reposted on X last year, Mike Tyson is visibly emotional as he is forced to stop speaking, overwhelmed by the pain of his past.
Reacting to the video, one person shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, ”Respect, wanted to reach out and give the man a hug. That’s a hard thing to go through [sic].”
”That pain,” another person wrote, capturing the raw emotion Tyson displayed.

A third commenter added, ”Bless him. He has always been a raw guy dealing with raw emotions and adversity. I’m glad he seems to be doing so much better now.” A fourth person reflected, ”Some things are just too painful to talk about.”
Even today, many years after the tragic accident, Exodus still lives on in Mike’s heart. In November 2024, when Tyson was fighting Logan Paul in an exhibition fight, he paid tribute to his late daughter in a really special way. Her name Exodus was stitched in white on the front bottom corner of his black boxing trunks.
Miki Tyson’s children
The celebrity boxer loves his children and makes them the center of his life. His eldest is Miki Tyson.
She is a musician and her father is incredibly proud of her and her career. In October 2024, she released her son ‘Love Me Again.’ The athlete took to Instagram to show off the song. He wrote, “My daughter @missmikityson’s new song. So proud. She’s an incredible writer and singer. Make sure you follow her page for more music.”

Tyson’s 28-year-old Ramsey Tyson is a big proponent and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community as they identify as a transmasculine and nonbinary individual.
They were the reason that in 2020 Tyson made waves for standing up to rapper Boosie Badazz after he made controversial comments about Dwyane Wade’s daughter, Zaya.
Ramsey reflected on their father’s decision to educate Boosie, saying, “Part of the reason why I wanted to talk to Boosie about it is because I’m a nonbinary person who’s socially transitioned amongst my friends and started a medical transition. I felt like I couldn’t not say something.”
They have also talked about how they are often misgendered when their father is covered in the media. They shared, “He didn’t mean it maliciously. I’ve talked to him about gender identity briefly. It’s very sweet to say I inspired him in some way.” Ramsey is a vocal advocate for the community and themselves.
Amir Tyson
27-year-old Amir Tyson owns a clothing line. The entrepreneur has used his creativity to a thriving business. When he was 13 years old, his father shared his hopes for his teen son, “He’s just nervous and afraid of life. But he’s doing so well…There are no bad influences. I have so many hopes for him.”
Miguel Tyson
Mike Tyson’s son Miguel Tyson is a professional travel photographer and videographer based in Los Angeles, California. In 2018, he posted a video of him and his dad as the boxer taught him some basics of boxing.
“He just started. Not trying to box, just trying to stay fit,” the caption wrote. Miguel has not followed his father’s footsteps as a boxer. But is someone who leans towards his creative side.
Milan Tyson
Mike Tyson’s daughter, Milan Tyson, is a tennis player and also owns an activewear brand called Milan Miyla, which was launched in 2021.
Her father often proudly talks about her strength and determination. In a 2022 interview, he said that his daughter could pack a punch.
In 2023, he said at the ESPY awards that, “Hey, it’s about that time. I have a daughter. I can’t be who I used to be, you know? Things have to change.”
He talked about how being middle-aged and this new phase in his life, he said, “My wife and kids think I’m good because now in my life with my children, I’m present. I’ve never been that way before in my life. Now that I have [children who are] 14 and 12, I’m just really present in their life.”

Mike Tyson’s youngest is Morocco Elijah Tyson. The young one has athletic abilities that he likes to show off on social media. He posts himself playing tennis. Mike also shares light moments of him with Morocco. He once posted the two of them playing golf, showing the two of them bond over sports.
When it comes to parenting his children, he says there is a difference between raising his girls and boys. He said, “Yeah. I slack up on my daughters, but I don’t give my boys too much slack. I have to redefine our relationship because sometimes I’m hard on them. I got to remember they didn’t grow up in Brownsville, so they don’t need to be treated hard.”
As for the bond he shares with his sons, he said, “There’s a part of us that we don’t want nobody to know, but it comes out in our children. We see things that we don’t like about ourselves and we try to check him on that so he won’t be like us.”
