Kim Kardashian is bringing another memorable look to the 2025 Met Gala!
The SKIMS founder and reality star — who has worn several iconic (and controversial) looks over the years, including wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress and a full-body black Balenciaga dress (that even covered her face) — turned heads in another eye-catching look.
Kardashian wore a crocodile leather off-the-shoulder two-piece set by Chrome Hearts with an open back and long train. She accessorized the look with strings of pearls hanging by her waistband, a multi-strand diamond necklace and a large leather hat.
Last October, Vogue announced that this year’s Met Gala would be co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James as honorary chair.
Fundraising for The Costume Institute — and with the spotlight on its spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the star-studded event will also have an A-list host committee, including Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Angel Reese and Usher.
According to Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton, the museum’s exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”
The new exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.
In February, the dress code for the Met Gala was revealed to be “Tailored for You.” Fittingly, it is a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting.
For last year’s Met Gala, the Kardashians star attended the event wearing a sheer Margiela by John Galliano dress featuring a lace train with floral accents. However, the focal point of the whole ensemble was her silver corset, giving her a drastically tiny waist, which she partially bundled up with a simple gray shawl.
Following her appearance at the event, she was captured being unbuttoned from the restrictive clothing, revealing visible marks left by the corset on an episode of The Kardashians. However, when asked in her confessional if the pain was worth it, she says, “Abso-f—ing-lutely.” She added, “That’s just who I am. If you look good, it’s all worth it.”

That wasn’t the only Met Gala outfit that gave Kardashian a bit of trouble. In 2019, Kardashian made a splash in a custom Thierry Mugler dress that was created to convey the designer’s vision of her as “this California girl stepping out of the ocean, wet, dripping.” The outfit also featured a dramatic corset, which she later admitted made it hard for her to breathe.
Kardashian has experimented with several looks throughout the 10-plus years that she’s been invited to the major style event. In 2013 and 2014, Kardashian went for a more traditional, Old Hollywood-inspired look with a custom Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci dress made with floral print and a blue strapless Lanvin gown with a black waistband and thigh-high slit, respectively, while attending with her ex-husband Kanye West.
The fashion mogul then channeled Cher at the 2015 Gala in a sheer crystal-embroidered Roberto Cavalli gown with feather detailing. The following year, she and West wore coordinating silver ensembles inspired by the theme Manus x Machina. The star went for a metallic Balmain look, which she described as “blingy, sexy, robot.”
The SKIMS founder kept things pared down for the 2017 Met Gala, where she wore a simple off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood Couture corset dress and went jewelry-free, months after being the victim of a robbery in Paris. The following year, she leaned into the theme of “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” with a gold chainmail dress by Versace featuring embroidered crosses.
Some of her most memorable looks came in the 2020’s as she shocked spectators by wearing a black Balenciaga look that covered up her entire body at the 2021 Met Gala, which featured a long-sleeve turtleneck bodysuit worn under an oversize T-shirt dress with long pleated train. She once again stunned fans the following year with by wearing the a 1962 dress Monroe wore to serenade President John F. Kennedy with a sultry rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
The star faced backlash both for the extreme diet she underwent to fit into the dress (she revealed she lost 16 lbs. in three weeks) and for wearing a historically significant gown. There were later allegations that the dress was damaged after she wore it, though Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, which owned the dress and lent it to Kardashian, denied this.
The star then took glam to another level at the 2023 Met Gala, where she wore a custom Schiaparelli haute couture design featuring a draped skirt and top made from more than 50,000 freshwater pearls and 16,000 crystal pearls. The gown took one dozen artisans 1,000 hours to craft.
