South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron has tragically passed away at the age of 24.
The young actress’ body was discovered by a friend at 4:5 PM local time on Sunday, February 16, at her home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of death but have stated that there were no signs of foul play or forced entry.
Sae-ron made her acting debut as a child star in 2009. She quickly rose to fame, earning critical acclaim for her performances in the 2010 action film The Man from Nowhere and the 2012 thriller The Neighbour.
However, her career took a major hit following a drunk driving incident in May 2022, which resulted in a 20 million won ($13,000) fine in April 2023.
The scandal led to her taking a step back from the industry, and her most recent role in the Netflix series Bloodhounds (2023) was reportedly reduced due to backlash.
At the time of the incident, Sae-ron publicly apologized for her actions, acknowledging her mistake in a heartfelt statement: “I had an accident yesterday on May 18, around 8 am in Gangnam, I made a big mistake by being drunk at that time,” per The Independent.
“I am also very sorry to the production crew, including fellow actors and staff, for interrupting the production of the work that is being shot and the work that was being prepared,” she continued.
“Once again, I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience. There is no excuse for this unfortunate incident and I am disappointed and so ashamed of my mistake. I will reflect and reflect again and again so that this never happens again. I’m sorry., she added.

Following the heartbreaking news of her death, tributes poured in across social media, with fans expressing their shock and grief.
“She made a mistake, but she was still young & had plenty of time to make things right. Yet, the world didn’t allow her that chance. They treated her as if she didn’t deserve to live again. Rest in peace, Kim Saeron, I hope you finally find the peace this world denied you,” one person penned.
